Stuck on Food from Your Cast Iron Skillet

Step 1

First, run a little water into the skillet and add a palm-full of kosher salt. Next, with a scrubbing pad, sponge, or pan scraper, scrub until the debris loosens. Rinse the pan with water.

Step 2

Dry the pan. With a paper towel, apply a light coat of oil to the interior of the skillet.

Reaseasoning Your Cast Iron

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 400°F. Clean and dry the cast iron well. Apply a thin coat of high-temperature oil all over the interior of the cast iron.

Step 2

Place the pan in the preheated oven, then turn the oven to OFF. Allow the pan to sit inside the oven for 1 hour. Remove from the oven. Allow it to fully cool before using.
